My Vision for The Scrunch

The Scrunch was born from a dream for education to be better. Having an education degree, I love to teach but am not a fan of the traditional education system. I believe that parents are the best teachers for their children but often feel ill-prepared to educate their children because the world tells them they can’t. I wanted to do what I love(teach) while also empowering parents to take ahold of their children’s education. So, the first concepts of The Scrunch were drawn out and poured over in an old notebook.

For now, The Scrunch is primarily just tutoring and support on a small scale. The goal is to eventually have a building of our own to work out of where I can hold workshops for children as they learn the hard things and also workshops for parents as they navigate what homeschooling means for them. I want it to be a space for homeschooling community to build each other up and thrive. I want for it to be a place where my future children learn and grow alongside friends and family. The concepts of critical and creative thinking will be nourished along with respect, persistence, and individuality. This is just a small part of my big dream for The Scrunch. For now, I keep pouring into what it is now, in hopes that someday those big dreams will come true.

As much as this is my dream, it is also something I want for my community. I would love to hear from you on some things you would want from The Scrunch. Whether that is now or in the future, I want to hear all the ideas. This won’t just be something for me but for all of us.
